A talk by Belsebuub in Greece, 2005
Wisdom requires preparation. To get true esoteric knowledge demands a serious inner work. In the beginning, snippets of experiences and knowledge can be given by divinity, which is useful as it enables you to explore further. But the deeper knowledge that comes with the path is much more difficult to reach.
Sacred beings will not try to persuade you to search or to work for knowledge. People need to get out of the idea that they should be persuaded or convinced about sacred wisdom. Someone who has a degree of true knowledge can do no more than explain to them, and then it’s for each to take whatever they feel and do whatever they think they should do in order to get their own knowledge, if that’s what they really want.
Q: Well, that’s quite clear, that’s the only thing we can do. But we cannot see the target, can we. that we’re going at? Just going at something blindly really…
Belsebuub: No, you can’t see the target, but if you practice enough, you will begin to see things that show you more and more about the target. Not only that, but you will begin to feel things within yourself which compel you in that direction, they become like a drive inside that you can’t ignore.
I really feel that that’s the way it is, I think that’s why so many people are here. There is a little drive that creeps in, but you don’t know how far it takes you.
You’ve got to get beyond that by going all out with it and giving it 100 percent, there’s no other way. You can’t be half-hearted and pass an initiation; it’s just impossible. If you are half-hearted you won’t get far, you’ll never really know what the path is. If you don’t really know what the path is, then how much do you really know about this work?
By being half-hearted you can do very little. You can pass tiny minor tests very early on, but beyond that, it’s just not open, the doors are shut. Requirements must be fulfilled in order to open the doors; they don’t open simply out of an interest or an idea that would like to see them open to find out what’s on the other side. In esoteric things, requirements must be fulfilled in order to open the door; otherwise, the door stays shut.
It’s very strict. The demands and the requirements are upon humanity to fulfill. When they are not fulfilled, there is nothing, it’s as simple as that. And no matter whether you may think it’s unfair or not the right time, or that you have other priorities such as family or work or events to attend to, it doesn’t matter, if you don’t fulfill the requirements, you are out.
Everywhere in the internal worlds there are requirements. They’re not going to change their requirements to fit humanity; birth (alchemy), inner death, and sacrifice for others are essential in order to fulfill their requirements for every step and every stage of learning.
Sometimes when I try to practice I feel lost and I don’t know what to do, so I ask for help, and then wait.
No, that’s where you need to explore, rather than waiting or expecting the answers to be handed to you intellectually. You need to have intellectual information to be able to know in which direction to search. But once you have that information, then it’s up to you to search and find out what is really happening.
Intellectual information is not in itself the teaching, it’s only something that leads to practice, and therefore, to experience real spiritual things. And so you shouldn’t wait for some kind of intellectual explanation to help you out when it comes to this, because spiritual things are for the individual to explore.
If someone has just an intellectual fascination about esoteric studies and doesn’t practice, they are usually passive, and yet that person can be giving great lectures and teaching lots of people. They can easily become a fanatic. That is a stepping stone to it or a symptom of it.
You’ve got to have knowledge of what you’re talking about esoterically, otherwise, there’s no common language to converse with. If you and another person have experienced esoteric teachings enough, then you have a shared language that you can communicate with, but if there’s no shared language or experience, then it’s very difficult to communicate esoteric things in the physical world.
We’re all communicating because of shared experiences?
Yes, we’re all communicating because of shared experiences. It’s not just a shared language we have, but shared experience. That’s what gives us the common grounds upon which we talk. We know what a shoe is and what a house is and we can communicate ideas about them as we have a shared experience and language. But when we talk about esoteric things there’s a discrepancy in the experience of it between different individuals, and that can produce a stoppage in its communication, which is why many teachings have been given through parables or symbols.
But there can also be communication which doesn’t have words and that can be extremely powerful.
It costs a lot to get esoteric experience, it is not easy. Teachings should be clear and indicate what needs to be done. They should be studied in a serious and dedicated way.
Listening to information or reading it is inadequate, just as simply practicing astral projection or meditating is also inadequate, if there is no active search and no requirements met to awaken. Esoteric experience cannot be demanded, it is not given in that way.
Those who gather intellectual information of esoteric things without truly wishing to awaken easily become fanatics. A fanatic can turn against others at any time and can switch, depending on the beliefs of the fanatic.
If we have some astral experience, even if we are conscious in the astral for a few seconds, is this something that we should keep secret for us or announce it to others?
It depends on whether there’s something in what you have experienced which is of use and help to other people, and whether you feel it is right to give it. You need to be able to distinguish between that kind of experience and that which is personal to you. If you are in doubt, then it’s better to keep quiet about it, because it’s given to you upon trust as a personal experience.
Sometimes you can have experiences which are useful to others. For example, if you learn to astral project and come out of your body, you can describe to people exactly how that works, and you explain about it not as intellectual knowledge, but a real knowledge from personal experience—that’s the best kind of knowledge that anyone who teaches can have, and it can be a very great help to other people.
So if an experience has nothing to give to someone else, there’s no reason to speak about it?
No, there’s not.
The more that you practice, the more that you will find a contact with the spiritual. We’re not just here in this three-dimensional world. We leave this behind every single night when we sleep. We’re here temporarily, that’s all. It’s as though you take people, and you put them into a clay model, it’s just a made up thing.
And those little chaps in the clay model don’t know that they’re in a clay model. They run around and say, “My main purpose is to make more little people to fill this clay model, and to have a patch of clay for myself. And when I die, I’ll be buried in that piece of clay over there.” That’s similar to how it is. The people in the clay model, who themselves are made of clay, can’t see beyond that. But, they’ve got the potential to see beyond it.
So those who are outside the clay model pass down information through various ways. Sometimes, people have been able to see beyond the clay model and to be taught by those ones that are outside of it. And then they come down into the clay—or they just were clay or are clay people, but they have a bit of knowledge—and they tell the people in the clay, “Look, you’re in a model. It’s not actually real, there’s much more to it than this. This is going to melt, this clay. It’s going to be made into something else in another time. It’s not real; there are all these other things that are real.”
And then these figures tell them, “Oh, you’re talking rubbish, you’re talking absolute nonsense—we’re happy in the clay.”
And these beings then say to the clay figures, “Look, you can stop being clay figures. Here’s the way that you can turn yourselves into real people, or spiritual beings like us.”
And the people in the clay like that, and then they make a religion out of it! They make little clay temples. So then they (the ones outside the clay) have to find somebody else to give them the message, because the clay figures distorted that one.
But some actually do change themselves from clay figures into real men. And they get out of the clay, and they see what it’s really about.
That’s a simple way of putting it.
I didn’t put the baddies in—I left them out of the story. They are there as well, but they’ve got a limit, they are restricted in their scope. There’s only so much that they can do, and then we’re given the tools to deal with them, and we can deal with them. But never get too confident when you do deal with them. Don’t get hooked into tricks by the forces of darkness.
