A talk by Belsebuub in Greece, 2006
To do this work in daily life, to be aware and to observe yourself, you need to be able to remember to do it.
Although the mind remembers in the first place, it’s the essence or consciousness that sees. But you can’t leave it at that, you’ve got to go further and explore it so that you feel what it is to be self aware. Find out what causes it precisely. What actually is remembrance? You’ve really got to search and find the answers to these questions in yourself.
The mind is needed to do this work—without it, it’s lost. That’s why when people go to the Abyss, they hand over what was human; they hand over basically the human mind. And then they’ve just got instincts and a very basic mind that doesn’t work like a human one. It’s the human mind that allows the essence to do the work, and it’s the human mind that needs to be trained to remember.
When you teach esoteric things, your train of thought goes on to the esoteric work, whereas if you’re at home and you’ve got no classes to go to, you’re on your own, you tend to just get lost and think about the things that you need to do for that particular day. So teaching then helps to direct the attention to the esoteric work, because it helps the mind to be directed toward it. And it’s the mind then that helps to remember to do it.
The Spiritual Incarnated
There are different points along the path whereby consciousness detaches from the mind, then you can be aware and think at the same time, and obviously this is very useful. Progressing along the path, the spiritual incarnated in different aspects in stages at different times; by progressing, they merge with you until eventually merging into a unity. Having the Being inside gives peace. At the beginning it gives a gentle peace. The more the progress along the path, the stronger the peace gets. After a while this peace begins to dominate.
When the Christ, the cosmic son is incarnated you have a peacefulness inside, the egos can knock it back but not out, but when you are not in the egos, then it manifests properly. As you go along keep destroying the egos, the peace gets stronger and it manifests more and more. That’s how by the time somebody gets to the Absolute they’ve got no egos, but has permanent, continuous peace, which is not being stolen by the egos. Before then, this spirit gets stronger and it begins to dominate the egos. And that is very fortunate for humanity.
The Christ works to destroy the egos. And the egos come up like a creature that bites somebody, normally they bite and they hurt and they leave an impression. But when the Christ resurrects then the ego bites and it dies.
The Christ comes to save the true man and comes to dominate. And this is wonderful for humanity. Can you imagine trying to go through this entire path, trying to work out how to remember yourself all the time, trying to wrestle with these same strong egos without something really powerful?
It’s so thankful that something comes along to help, and so thankful not to be left alone. If a person were to be left alone, it would be a terrible. If you read the Pistis Sophia, you’ll see how the light is taken away from Pistis Sophia because it’s part of the work that the light withdraws sometimes. And then the person is left without that light, having had the light, and it’s awful.
Yet, humanity doesn’t have that light at all, it has never seen it and never known it. Humanity is not even a true man, as it is bestial. And yet that light is so absolutely important that no one can walk this path nor awaken without it. Get that light, because that’s the thing that saves.
For all of the human inadequacies, for all of the egos, then the Christ comes within and into a monstrosity and a prison and lifts the true man up. So, there is a hope—the work is not a continuous, endless struggle that seems to go nowhere. The beast is transformed fundamentally by this work. If it wasn’t like this, there would be no chance at all, absolutely no chance. It’s a miracle that everyone has the chance to get—if only the efforts were made for it. It’s not going to be a continuous stupefied emptiness, if you take the right steps.
There’s so much to go through, most don’t make the effort to do it, to walk along the path takes such effort and sacrifice and, very importantly, the ability to humbly suffer. Suffering is so unpleasant, something to wish get away from. Suffering is the opposite of what anyone wants to feel with this work, and yet to feel peaceful and happy in the true sense everyone has to suffer.
Q: I feel that only if we suffer can we appreciate the feeling of being well. Only then can we differentiate what is happening, what is being well.
Belsebuub: No, because the Being and the Christ are so powerful that you will feel what it is to be well. It’s radically different from the normal state, radically different. You don’t need to suffer more to feel that.
But one effect of making sacrifices and suffering is that you learn to appreciate things. If you don’t appreciate something, you can easily throw it away, but to do that to the Christ is stupid. And to get to the Christ, you’ve got to suffer, really suffer terribly.
Perhaps another thing is that we have to lose it first.
It’s already lost, when you gain it you will appreciate it. The trouble is that people don’t realize what’s lost. There’s nothing to compare it to. You can’t compare what it’s like to be with it to what it’s like to be without it, because it’s just not there and has not been there. So, you have to use the small amount of drive that you have, which is the essence trying to break free, because the essence knows what it really wants. It knows that it wants the Christ; it knows that it wants liberation. Use that and whatever else you are able to do—within the restrictions of the divine laws and of the egos—and use that to awaken. The human state is so bad, as it is fallen, it’s terrible. But, because it’s normal, because there’s no experience of being out of it, humanity knows no different, it likes living in a poisoned state.
Yes, it’s like one is somehow hypnotized with that.
Yes.
Their efforts are put into making money and entertainment and that stuff. And most of them don’t care about themselves or about their souls, and especially in the Western societies they just have the feeling that we’re just humans and nothing else, there’s no soul, there’s nothing else. All we have to think about is money, because of that.
A human being has the same basic components that animals have, except for a mind that is complex enough to allow the awakening to take place, so the psyche has the different distortions and ways of the animal egos. But, humanity doesn’t know what it’s like to be free of it. It’s just that within some people, the essence is strong enough that it pushes them to search, experiment, experience, and practice so that they can come out of that state.
You don’t realize how poisoned and how terrible the ordinary human state is, you can’t know until you get out of it. Even if you get out of it a bit…let’s say someone has practiced alchemy for a while and raises the Kundalini and they have a fall. Then they fall back and they see this shocking difference. Even if someone’s practicing alchemy for a shorter time, they can still see a difference. As the Kundalini falls there’s a shocking difference.
Perhaps then you can begin to perceive these things. The change which takes place in awakening is gradual. It’s only really when stages of the Being are incarnated that you notice a jump, because generally nature doesn’t take jumps. You go throughout the path, throughout the work with a gradual change. If you get knocked back a bit, you can look back and can see there has been improvement, but as you advance daily in the work you don’t see so much of a big change to compare the state with.
Could you explain just how difficult it is? What kind of obstacles do people have to overcome? What difficulties arise?
When starting off, there are precise tests that everybody goes through. Whoever clings on to their ordinary ways of living and puts other things first won’t get through these tests.
To walk the path you can’t cling on to anything materially. You don’t irresponsibly give things up, but life in itself will give you choices. For example a test comes which tests whether you really want this work or whether you love other things more, then you are presented with a choice in your life, life itself puts it to you, no one does it consciously to you. This could take many forms depending on your priorities, one example could be when you are offered a promotion at work, but to take it up would mean giving up this work, or being unable to do it, then you make the decision based upon what you really feel. If you choose not to take up the work, they won’t put any more trials to you, they leave you to do as you wish, but you would fail the test.
And then the tests just increase and they’re on all sorts of things. They test on every aspect in the human psychology, every single one. So if you think of every emotion that exists, all of that has to be tested so that gradually any kinds of ego states are removed, and what remains and is gained is spiritual.
Don’t you think that also the fact that the teaching perhaps was explained in a way that didn’t seem feasible for a human being to do, that made the situation much more difficult? Because there are things that are said that we take as though we need to do, but we cannot because it’s far beyond the human capacity to actually do in the way it is explained? The way it’s explained is like, it’s not something that you could go through your life doing it, that it’s only for a few periods of time?
The esoteric things in the work are explained because they’re a guide to everyone, but you can easily get the wrong impression from that—that almost as soon as you start the work, you’re kind of some sort of a divine Being that’s going straight into the astral plane, getting all these divine teachings, just like an angel on Earth, and you haven’t even started the first mountain yet. It’s not like that. It gives that impression because it’s just explaining about the esoteric side, but there’s a human side, there’s the side of the egos, the personality, the mind, all these things that make up the person and real-life events that the person has to go through in the physical world. It’s a process and it’s more human than the impression that’s gained from the books.
But we have to have done something very wrong to have been placed on Earth with only (according to these teachings) 3 percent of consciousness. It’s so hard, and there’s evil around us, the work here is really, really hard.
It’s the way the processes go; it’s the way that it runs. There is a lot of help from above though, for those who try to awaken.
Why does the path involve pain?
The path involves pain, because with pain, egos and actions are tested.
How do you do it when you are brought down time and again.
You just do it.
Surprisingly enough, initiative is tested. For example, someone ends up in a very difficult situation, but comes out on top; they work out something and are ok.
Can people work on themselves in the exodus in the fourth dimension.
No, they cannot work on themselves due to the laws of another dimension.
Then you can only work on yourself here?
Yes, it just shows what a waste of time it is not to change while being here.
How do you know that you have reached the 50 percent level in the disintegration of egos?
You would be shown when out of the body, or while in a dream, usually with symbols that include the Wheel of Samsara.
What are higher centers in thoughts and feelings?
There are two kinds of centers: lower and higher. There’s the lower mental and lower emotional, and the superior mental and superior emotional. Solar bodies are created for those two higher centers to exist—the solar astral body and the solar mental body. This changes the psychological structure of the human being, giving the ability to feel superior emotions and have the ability to comprehend immediately, without relying upon the complex weighing up process of the mind. Most people today don’t pursue these things, for them these things are completely obscure.
You have said several times that there is not much time left; can you explain a little bit more about that?
There’s not much time left for anyone. Everyone thinks they’ve got a lot of time, but there’s not—not to do this work. It seems there’s a lot of time for other things, like entertainment and the rest of it, but when it comes down to doing this work, any time that’s lost is over. The physical body ages, and so time passes by, and eventually, it runs out. It takes time to do this work, there’s not much time to do it.
Also because everyone is either in their last life of the circuit of lives, or is close to it, and because humanity has a definite end, which is approaching.
How do we prepare ourselves to start the path?
Study the requirements of the path and meet them. Modify your behavior so that its upright, just and good. Reduce large psychological tendencies or defects, look at your dreams for guidance, practice birth, death and sacrifice.
Get the basics of the exercises right. Just as athletes train for their sport, so too you need to train spiritually if you want to get the basics right, such as being aware or in self-observation. But due to the nature of the spiritual work, uncompromised massive efforts are required to succeed in it. The standards to succeed on the path require the disintegration of the psychological defects. If you don’t do that, you won’t make it. Training is therefore important—turn your actions into concentrated practices.
Be ready to go through the pain of the inner death. Those who try to awaken face a massive wall of life and it takes huge efforts to break it. The pull of life is very strong, and the chains of nature have to be broken. Consider what it will take to put yourself through this, and then do it.
Set yourself a program of work; change your perspective of what it is to do it, as the whole of your psychological makeup must undergo a change.
Discipline is essential in daily life to be able to break habits, cut out mistakes, and to shift the psychological center of gravity so that it revolves around esotericism—everything should be used to help you to become spiritual.
Also, the spiritual center of gravity has to be created, to enable you to think about the inner death of the psychological defects more. The starting point is to organize spiritual things into your daily life and to concentrate upon the things you are doing; to get the strength for this you have to be singled-minded from the beginning of the day.
To break the grip that daily life has, you need discipline, and that creates an order. Then you do things you need to do, not the things you want to do.
Consider what you can do to assist your inner work. Try to do it as you think best, but it’s actually only going to be done by you storming it; it is not going to be done simply with the passing of time.
Inner change requires inner shock. If that doesn’t happen, nothing will happen. Aspiring for spirituality alone won’t bring about radical change. There are requirements that have to be fulfilled correctly.
